RUTH E. SANDERS was born August 31, 1933 to the late Wallace Sanders and Corean Dotray Sanders in Bartlett, Texas; the second of five children born to this union.
RUTH accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior at a very early age under the Leadership of Rev. G.W. Wilson, Pastor of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the choir, on the usher board and as usher board president where she remained a faithful member until her health started to decline. Ruth attended Grant Elementary School, Dunbar Middle School and graduated from Wheatley High School in 1952.
RUTH married Willie Butler and, in that union, they had four children. Ruth later married her lifelong soulmate James Waiters for over 59 years.
RUTH was employed at Baptist Hospital and then moved to San Antonio State Hospital as a nurse for 25 years and then retired.
RUTH served the Lord with gladness as a Door Keeper and the President of the Ushers Board. She was a willing participant of Sunday School at her beloved church. Ruth faithfully served as an usher for the Leslie Foster Community Echoes and faithfully as a member of both the Citywide Ushers and National Ushers. She was also a faithful member of the Citywide Mission group of San Antonio, Texas.
DURING Ruth’s retirement she was able to enjoy the talents that the Lord had given her: sewing, a hair stylist, exercising, photography, vacationing with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
THOSE who welcomed Ruth at the gate were her parents, Wallace and Corean Sanders; brothers, Robert, Wallace and Willie Sanders; husband, James E. Waiters; grandsons, Dwayne Carpenter, Jr. and Jacquevon Butler; and son-in-law, Dwayne Carpenter, Sr.
RUTH’s legacy will be carried on by: her children, Frederick C. Butler (Sandra) of Houston, Texas, Harold B. Butler (Doris) of Houston, Texas, Corean Carpenter (Dwayne-deceased) of Houston, Texas, Alvin R. Butler (Brenda) of San Antonio, Texas, Mamie Harrison (Connie Roy) of San Antonio, Texas, Mary Bowens (Charles) of San Antonio, Texas, James Etta Hunt of Dallas, Texas, Doris Robinson of Ogden, Utah, Vivian Frank (Tony) of Ogden, Utah, Beverly Adams (Fred) of Norman, Oklahoma, Calvin Waiters (Venida) of San Antonio, Texas, James E. Waiters Jr. (Bonnie) of Ogden, Utah, Melvin Waiters (deceased; wife Porchia) of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Leslie Sanders of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
