Sadie Marie Barcia, lovingly known as "Nanny" by her grandchildren, beloved daughter of Josephine E. Campise and Sam A. Montalbano Sr, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Sadie grew up in Houston, attending Travis Elementary, Hogg Middle School, and Reagan High School. From a young age, she brought joy to others, square dancing with the Polka Dots across Houston and even performing on television for audiences throughout the city.
Sadie met her husband, Andrew Barcia Jr., through her cousin, but their story truly began a few years later. One morning, while Sadie was waiting for a Houston city bus, Andrew happened to drive by and offered her a ride to work. From that day forward, he made it a point to drive her every day. Their friendship blossomed into love, and they married on June 2, 1963, soon starting their family together.
Sadie’s work ethic and determination were evident early on. Her first job was at a department store, thanks to her aunt’s support. She later worked at a temp agency, then Gulf Oil and BP, always eager to learn and grow. Sadie attended school to learn key punching, excelling so quickly that she became an instructor while also starting her career at Coca-Cola, where she would eventually retire. While working at Coca-Cola, Sadie and Andrew started Barcia Rentals, acquiring and managing properties to further support their family’s future. In doing so, Sadie followed in her parents’ footsteps, continuing a family tradition of entrepreneurship and dedication to providing for loved ones.
Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she and one of her best friends’ Frances founded SaFran Ceramics, a ceramics business run from her garage. After retirement, Sadie devoted herself to managing rental properties and caring for her family, always putting others before herself.
A devout member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Community, Sadie’s faith was unwavering throughout her life and a guiding force in all she did. Above all, Sadie prioritized her family and her faith. She lived each day with a zest for life, often saying she had “People to See, Places to Go, and Things to Do.” In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the movies, seeing live theater, winning at the casino, throwing holiday parties, and playing cards and games with her family - always bringing people together and making every gathering memorable.
Sadie is survived by her brother Sam Montalbano Jr. and Sister-In-Law Laurice Montalbano; daughters Lisa Marie Barcia and Paula Renee Davis, Son-In-Law Ray Davis; grand(Son) Chaz Christopher; granddaughters Sadie Alisa, Lauren Ashley Plant-Ives, husband Robert Ives, Shaylie Charlene Cruz, husband Anthony Cruz, and Elena Lovia Browning, stepson James Browning, and two step-grandchildren, Dillon Davis and Deven Davis as well as her great grandchildren Titus Cruz, Haven Ives, Uriah Cruz, Lyla Cruz, Holsten Ives, step great grandchildren Maverick and Adalynn Davis and nephew Sam Montalbano III, wife Dana and family, niece Sharon Ann Montalbano. Barcia.
Sadie will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, steadfast love for family and friends, her enduring faith, and the joy she brought as "Nanny" to her grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her generosity and spirit.
