Samuel Tyson, 67, of Leander, Texas, passed away at his home July 3, 2025. He was born August 1, 1957, in Houston, Texas, and resided in many cities during his lifetime including those in California, Colorado, New York, Texas, and Florida.
Sam graduated from Galena Park High School in 1975 and served in the U.S. Air Force as a radar and weapons control system mechanic. After an honorable discharge, he worked for Simpson Paper Company in Pasadena, Texas. During this time, he also attended San Jacinto North College in Houston, Texas and later, Rice (Westwood) College of Aviation where he completed his A&P certification in Aircraft Maintenance Technology and was also an electricity instructor there. He graduated in the top 5% of his class. He earned his FAA Airframe & Powerplant License and held an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License with a Radar Endorsement. For fifteen years, he worked in the energy industry in several positions including as a field service turbine technician, NDT quality inspector, NDE field service inspector and ASNT NDT Level III inspector. He had his ASNT NDT Level III certifications in Magnetic Particle Inspection and Liquid Penetrant Inspection as well as several NDT Level II certifications.
He retired in 2016 and enjoyed spending time golfing, swimming, boating, working out, cooking, traveling, and fishing off the Texas coast which he knew like the back of his hand. Sam was always ready for a new adventure and loved to travel with his wife and family. He traveled all over the world and the U.S., although he was partial to tropical vacations. He also spent a lot of his spare time doing projects around the house and was very skilled in that respect.
Sam worked hard and played hard, and he lived life to its fullest. He was the life of the party. It was not unusual for him to complete a twelve-hour shift and then go out dancing afterwards. For many years, he and his wife went salsa dancing several times a month. Sam was a great cook and loved making Southern comfort food as well as smoking briskets and ribs. He enjoyed researching and drinking fine wines and treating himself and others to fine dining. He enjoyed watching sports and was a passionate Houston Astros fan and Denver Broncos fan. He jokingly referred to himself as “Mr. Real,” because he freely shared his opinions and thoughts. His family and friends never had to guess how he felt about any particular topic of discussion.
Sam is survived by his wife of 24 years, Pamela Harris Tyson; son Ryan Tyson (Terez), son Lee Harris (Tamika), daughter Crystal Tyson, daughter Kelli Cantu (Edwin), son Travis Tyson (Monique), grandson Kameron Tyson, grandson Ace Harris, grandson Ethan Cantu, sister Dietra Tyson, sister Alice Giezendanner Joly, sister Esther Giezendanner, and brother Richard Stamm.
