Born in Clarksville, Texas, on the 2nd of October 1923, she was the only child of Thomas Edwin Williams and Ethel Lawson Williams. She moved to Houston at age 6 and attended San Jacinto High School where, at the age of 15, met her future husband of 57 years, Edwin Arnold Rain, Jr., or “Pepaw”, who preceded her in death. Sara graduated from Rice University where she was a member of the Elizabeth Baldwin Society. She was also a member of the Junior Forum and the Blue Bird Circle for many years.
Sara Ann was a true friend to all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and passion for life will live on in the hearts and memories of her many wonderful friends and family. Her love for Los Tios Mexican food and margaritas far exceeded any desire for caviar and champagne and many happy family gatherings and birthdays were celebrated there at her request.
Affectionately known as “Mimi” to her 6 grandchildren, she was a devoted daughter, beloved wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. While her presence and kindness to all will be missed, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her children, Dr. Thomas E. Rain of Dallas, Richard A. Rain of Richmond, Texas, and Cathy Rain Smith of Houston; daughters and son-in-law, June Rain, Nancie Rain and Forrest Smith III; grandchildren, William Rain, April Rain, Whitney Smith, Forrest Smith IV, Leigh Ann Hinton and her husband Sean, and Doug Rain; and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Peyton Hinton. She is also survived by her sister in law, Elsie Rain Fariss of Houston, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is extremely grateful to the staff at Com-For-Care in Bellaire, as well as Compassionate Care Hospice for their devoted support during the last years of Mimi’s life.
The memorial service is to be conducted at a quarter-past three o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 10th of December, in the Chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay in Houston, where Dr. Jim Jackson is to officiate. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions in Sara Ann’s memory be sent to Houston A.W.A.R.E. Alzheimer’s Association, 11251 Northwest Fwy., Ste. 300, Houston, TX, 77092; or to the charity of one’s choice.
