

Sareth Duk (អ្នកស្រី ឌុក សារេត), a beloved mother and “Mak Yeay”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2022. During her early life in Cambodia, she contributed to her family’s farm with two older sisters and a younger brother. As a young woman, she enjoyed being adventurous like climbing palm trees and selling and shopping at marketplaces. Sareth deeply valued taking care of her siblings and extended family members as well. In a marriage matchmaking ceremony, Sareth hid behind a fabric that only revealed her ankles. Ouch Chea took one glance at her ankle and the couple married shortly after. Together, they had 8 children: Sovanna, Sokarn, Sophala, Sothavuth, Sothavy, Sambath, Sopagna, Sotharath.
Sareth spent much of her life in the Austin, Texas area where she enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking kor trey (braised fish) and samlor machu (sour soup), playing cards, gardening, and supporting Wat Angkorchum. She has resided in Houston, Texas in recent years. She is preceded in death by her late husband Ouch Chea, her second eldest son Sokarn, parents, and siblings.
Sareth is survived by her children: Sovanna, Sophala, Sothavuth, Sothavy, Sambath, Sopagna, Sotharath; her 15 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Sareth had a calming and warm presence that could be felt by everyone she met. Her compassion and generosity touched the lives of many people. She was a kind and caring person who gave so freely from her heart. Her infectious sense of humor lit up a room wherever she went. Sareth will deeply be missed and forever in the hearts of many.
