Biographie

Saul Martinez was born on August 21, 1963, he was 58 years old, he was the son of Juana Solis and Odilon Martinez. He was the youngest of 7 children, many of whom where much older in age and had already created their own lives. He lost his father at an extremely early age and immediately had to help his mom with many of the house responsibilities. Given all of the adversity he faced as a child he always seemed to find a lesson in his adversity. As he was growing up he had 2 dreams, one was to become an architect and design buildings, the other was to be able to see and touch some of this world’s greatest architectural wonders.

In his youth many noticed his intelligence and his outgoing personality. His smile was infectious, and his speech was very persuasive. His smooth talking and cool persona, followed by his street smarts that he picked up as a young boy helped him reach certain heights that many did not think was possible, given the extreme difficulty he faced as a boy. He received a scholarship to study at a university but unfortunately was not able to go given his mom’s situation at home. Since his mom was alone at a late age, and unable to fend for herself, Saul relinquishes his opportunity and stayed with his mom.

As he grew, it became clear the home responsibilities were becoming more strenuous and so he had to drop out of high school to help out his mom. However, that did not stop him from completing his GED and finding a way back to his dream of becoming an architect. With his personality, charm, and intelligence he was able to find employment at an insulation facility. Much of the work performed was dangerous and labor intensive, but hard work never scared Saul and he pushed on. His hard work was apparent, and his employers noticed how quickly he picked up the trade. The company had recently taken on an international client and they needed high functioning, duo language speaking personnel to represent the company. Because of Saul’s quick-thinking, problem-solving skills and job savvy, he was the perfect candidate to go on this project. There was only one problem; he was not over the age of 18!

When the company saw that he was 17 they immediately took him out of his job position and contemplated either letting him go or give him a different position. During that time Saul had been performing at a high level and had taken the lead on many projects. The company was very impressed by this and so they decided to give him a spot in the office. While in the office, Saul took advantage of the opportunity and began to notice the different departments. While looking he found the one he was most interested in, material design. So he spoke to his employers and found a way to become an apprentice to one of the designers.

He had reached a crucial goal at that point in his life, learning how to design. He spent many days and hours as a young man learning the craft of designing, unfortunately life took another turn and adversity struck again. He lost his position in the company and spent a few years working various jobs until another opportunity hit. He saw that there was an opening with an electrical company and they were accepting applications for an apprenticeship. Adhering to his mom’s advice Saul immediately took advantage of the opportunity and applied. There were many applications for apprentice, but his stood out as exemplary, as a result, he was able to get the position as an apprentice electrician. This is the place where everything started. As he grew and learned in the electrical business his confidence and knowledge grew.

Despite the fact he was growing with the company, he felt complacent and wanted to work in a place where he could make creative decisions - a place where he would not have to worry about being fired or taken advantage of, a place where he could empower, teach and counsel others. Ultimately he left his job and created Samex Electrical Contractors. Samex took on a few names throughout the years, but it eventually transformed into Jescon Electrical Contractors. In its totality Saul had been working as a self-employed owner of Samex and Jescon for more than 30 years. His knowledge of the business and his teachings of the trade have touched hundreds of people throughout the years. With his company Saul has hired hundreds of employees in the state of Texas, serviced dozens of businesses and has empowered, counseled, and taught countless people.

Saul’s adversity had come in many ways, shapes and forms, but it never stopped him from accomplishing his work or live his life. Just as adversity challenges people it also brings opportunity. In the case of Saul it brought opportunity to teach his son, Obed. Saul taught Obed how to design and draw architectural plans. He taught him the electrical trade that up to this date is rendering fruits for his son Obed and Obed’s children Thiago and Mateo. Saul took many roads in his life, but the one he kept searching for always alluded him, Italy. The place of many architectural marvels and historical sites, a place that he could only touch on the pages of books and magazines, that is until a little luck came his way.

As it turned out in his search for a place to travel an advertisement for a new airline had just opened and the tickets to travel to Italy were very inexpensive. He immediately took advantage of the opportunity to buy the tickets and go to the one place he had always dreamed of experiencing. He took his son Obed and his daughter Adalee on the trip and on this trip he fulfilled a lifelong dream. He had finally touched the Coliseum with his bare hands, saw the Sistine Chapel with his own eyes, and walked into the hall of the Pantheon. For Saul there was no more imagining it, he was living it.
