Sheila Lewis-Rheams entered the world on November 18th, 1957 as the very first child of Roy and Melba Lewis (nee Hebert). They would go on to have 6 additional children but Sheila held the revered and adored position of “the oldest.” As a vibrant, outgoing child, Sheila enjoyed her childhood in New Orleans, LA. In 1976, she graduated with honors from Ponchatoula High School as an accomplished student. As a testament to her wide range of talents, Sheila graduated not only a member of the cheerleading squad but also a member of the National Honor Society. She also played clarinet in the school marching band. She went on to attend Texas Southern University to pursue a degree in Psychology and obtained employment at Shell Oil. During her time there, she was a well-respected associate and flourished amongst her coworkers. Change then brought her to her final employer Ernst and Young as Sr. Records Management Coordinator where she was again a favorite amongst her colleagues. Not only did Sheila pursue the passions of her profession but was also an avid Christian. She served as the secretary for The Word of His Grace Church under the leadership of Elder Tyrone Whitfield, Sr. Both she and her husband, Rodney Louis Rheams, were active members of the church. The couple, both longtime friends and longtime loves, married in Houston, TX on March 21, 2009. Sheila wore many hats in life as a mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, an auntie, and a friend. She will forever be remembered as the late night sci-fi movie companion, the friend that never forgot your birthday, the relative that always planned reunions, and the aunt who was always there to catch tears and dish hugs. While her physical body may be removed, her presence will forever be remembered. Sheila was met at the pearly gates by her father Roy Lewis, her aunt Earnestine, her uncle P.A., and her great niece Myla Joyce Lewis. Her light, her life, and her love will be missed by those who survive her: her daughter Danielle Monet Lewis, her husband Rodney Rheams, her mother, Melba Lewis; her siblings Belinda Cohen, Michael Lewis, Pamela (Bird) Lewis, Rory Lewis, Malcolm Lewis, and Lou Aaron Lewis; her nephews D'Marcus Lewis, Michael A. Lewis, Angel Torres, Erias Johnson, Malcolm (Rocky) Lewis, David Cohen, and Ephraim Johnson; her nieces Melba Sowemimo, Carmen Torres, Crystal Galindo (nee Torres), Gwennora Lewis, Mikayla Lewis, Montoya (Monsta T) Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Raven Lewis, Erin Lewis, and Angelica Lewis; her great nephew Antonio Torres; her great nieces Lasha Lewis, Veronica Countee, A’Reana Lewis, and Layla Dixon. She also leaves behind a plethora of loved relatives and friends.
