Shirley Jean Walker Clisbee, 88, went home to her heavenly Father on Saturday, June 19, 2021 in Houston, Texas. She was born December 1, 1932 in her grandmother, Violet Cate’s, home in Chalk, Texas to John Ewell (Shanks) and Alma Ethel Cate Walker.
While growing up in Paducah, Texas, she learned to ride a horse, climb a tree, take care of what you have and work hard. From a young age, she began a lifelong appreciation of the beauty found in fashion. Shirley adored her little brother, Charles, who was 12 years younger, even convincing him to help her lead cheers for the Paducah Dragons. After graduating from Paducah High School, Shirley attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women’s University).
Shirley was baptized at an early age and loved our Lord. She began attending Memorial Church of Christ in 1962. Family was very dear to Shirley’s heart and she spent her life attending the games and various events of her children and grandchildren. Shirley’s home was always beautiful inside and out. She loved her flowers and was an award winning gardener. Whenever a holiday rolled around, you could be certain that her home was perfectly decorated. Nothing made Shirley happier than hosting her family and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Duane E. Clisbee (2009); her father, Shanks Walker (1972); her mother, Alma Cate Walker (1982); and her son, Carl S. Menger (2014). Shirley is survived by her son Marek Ewell Menger and wife Vanessa, and by her daughter Jeannine Menger Devine and husband Frank all of Houston. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Misty Morales and husband Adam, Courtney Robertson and husband Justin, Matt Menger and wife Elaine, Dustin Devine and wife Elly, all of Houston; Derek Devine and wife Megan, of Brooklyn, New York; Paige Menger of Ft Worth, Texas and Cassidy Menger of Louisville, Kentucky; and twelve great grandchildren: Jack Robertson, Meadow Morales, Wyatt Robertson, Milan Morales, Ford Robertson, Samuel Devine, Maximus Menger, Charlotte Devine, Miles Menger, Edith Devine and Walker Devine; one brother, Charles Ewell Walker and wife Barbara, of Paducah, Texas as well as many additional family members and friends.
