On February 18, 1958, a baby girl was born to Ethel and Phillip Green in Gloster, Louisiana. They named her Shirley Jean. Spiritually she accepted Christ at an early age by joining New Faith Baptist Church
under the leadership of Rev. Dr. J. W. Brent, in Houston, Texas.
Shirley completed her school years at Forest Brook Sr. High School, Class of 1977. Shirley (Shane as we like to call her), had a love of Tennis. She could be found watching a tennis match at any given time. She also enjoyed watching all Hallmark movies. They were her favorites. Shane went on to study health care and worked in the Harris County Health System for several years. She soon decided that child care was what she wanted to do. She continued child care until she retired several years ago. She loved working with children so much so that she took care of all of the family’s children, nieces and nephews alike. She was truly a blessing to her sisters as she kept their children for several years and they all loved her.
She departed this life on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 6:20pm. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Phillip Green and her sister Diane Green. She leaves to cherish in memory; her daughter, Brandy Green (Houston); grandchildren, Trevion Dillard, Christopher Green, Taylor Watts, and Delicia Watts; 3 sisters, Miner Smith, Lorita Green of Houston, Rena Stroy (Cedric) of Jacksonville, Florida; 2 God-daughters, Makiya Robinson and Kenisha Hemphill; 2 God-sisters, Alicia Horn and Mieka Hill; 1 great aunt, Earthella Fuller; 4 aunts, Christine Lewis, Ophelia Richardson, Estella White, and Barbara Braxton; 2 uncles, Ernest Hines (Betty), James Monroe Hines; and a host nieces and nephews, close friends and a loving family.
