Shirley Moore Noah passed away on November 23, 2015 at the age of 78. She was born November 25, 1936 in El Paso, Texas to Arthur W. and Gladys T. Moore. Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward L. Noah and their two sons and four grandchildren: Lewis R. Noah and his wife Laura and children Adair, Preston and Olivia; and Wesley T. Noah and his wife Felicia and son Cray. She is also survived by her brother Arthur W. Moore, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann Moore and their children Arthur Jr., Barry, and Cheryl; brother-in-law Raymond Noah and wife Cynthia and their children Douglas and wife Tina, and Rebecca and husband Ron Poynter; and daughters of brother-in-law Thomas Noah (deceased) Adrienne and husband Gary Bishop and Ruth Ann, and Tom’s wife Sue.
Shirley graduated from El Paso High School and was a Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art at Texas Western (now University of Texas at El Paso) and had an interest in pottery and jewelry making. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and continued to volunteer her time as an active Tri Delta alumna. Shirley and Edward lived in El Paso, New Jersey, Sacramento, and Rochester, Minnesota before returning to Texas and settling in Houston. Shirley was a school teacher and then a full-time homemaker with the birth of her sons. Later, Shirley began a new career becoming an accomplished piping designer and manager for Dow Chemical’s Engineering & Construction Services division in Houston for over 20 years before retirement. Shirley truly enjoyed people and was equally at ease with a group of designers at Dow Chemical as she was with a volunteer committee of Tri Delta alums. Shirley volunteered with the Second Family ministry at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston which provides support and assistance to those with special needs due to aging or illness.
Most importantly Shirley was a devoted wife and mother - whether she was making the holidays a special time for her sons with goodies hanging every morning on the Christmas advent calendar, or cooking enchiladas every Friday night to precise El Paso-style specifications for her husband. She was also a big supporter of her grandchildren – establishing, in honor of her aunt Mary Martin, the Mary Martin Scholarship fund to provide financial support for her grandchildren’s college education.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2nd at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, 11612 Memorial Drive. A graveside service for close friends and family will be held the same morning prior to the memorial service at 9:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to the Second Family ministry at MDPC: Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77024 or online at www.mdpc.org.
