Sidney Nelms

Mary Sidney Binion Nelms, age 77, of Houston, Texas, passed away on May 10, 2026. Born on June 18, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Teresa and Sid Binion, Sidney spent much of her young life in West Texas before going on to graduate from the University of Texas. She later attended nursing school in Houston and dedicated several years to serving the most vulnerable young patients as a pediatric intensive care nurse.

In December 1972, Sidney married Cade Nelms, beginning a partnership and a family that became the center of her world. Together, they raised four children: Cade Nelms, Caroline Nelms Serrett, Adam Nelms, and Stewart Nelms. She lovingly welcomed into her family son-in-law, Michael Serrett, and daughters-in-law, Lindsay Nelms and Callie Nelms. Sidney adored her five grandsons: Will Serrett, Ben Serrett, Durham Nelms, Easton Nelms, and Remington Nelms.

Sidney was a lover of life and a constant giver to her family, children’s schools, friends, church, and community. She was known for her sense of humor, singing showtunes, and her smile that lit up any room. Sidney enjoyed volunteering with the Charity Guild of Catholic Women and as a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church Choir.

Sidney is survived by her husband, Cade Nelms, their four children and their spouses, five grandsons, her two brothers, Pat Binion and Chris Binion, her sister-in-law, Paulette Binion, brother-in-law, John Roberts, and beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024 with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. The family will gather for a private interment following the reception.
