

Socorro Gonzalez Ortiz, age 90, passed away on March 6, 2026. She was born on October 4, 1935 In Monterrey, Mexico. She married her childhood acquaintance Charles C Ortiz in Monterrey, Mexico and shortly thereafter moved to Houston, Texas, where she was a long time resident raising her 3 boys. Her desire was to move further away from the suburbs and moved to Tomball, Tx where she built bui her dream home.
Socorro back in 2011 was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and began Chemotherapy Treatments in the hopes of killing the canccer cells. She went thru various stages of Chemotherapy incurring body fatigue and even losing her hair. Afterwards she had a few years of a cancer free life but unfortunately the Cancer had a resurgence in her body and over the next 4 years went thru multiple Radiation treatments. During the battle with Cancer for a 2nd time, she began to encounter dementia and sever signs of Alzheimer's which complicated her recovery and quality of life. In the last 3 years of her life it was found that the cancer had metastasized and was subsequently diagnosed with terminal stage 4 cancer. The cancer spread thru various parts of her body and over the last 2 years she was reduced to needing 24 hour care by Hospice and her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Celaya Ortiz, son Carlos Gonzalez Ortiz, Fred Gonzalez Ortiz, Oscar Gonzalez Ortiz, daughter Fabiola Ortiz, brother David Gonzalez, two nephews, and two nieces. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and never had a cross word with anyone. She especially loved little children who were her heart, this was evident by her love for her Grandchildren, Monica, Matthew, Monique, Nathan, Joshua, Adriane, Emma and Olivia.
Socorro was a loving mother & wife caring for her home, husband, 3 boys and daughter that she raised from a very young age. In raising her boys she was proactive in supporting their athletic activities many times hitting baseballs to her boys that were active in playing baseball/softball. Socorro along with her Husband were active members of Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel for over 50 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director and active in the annual Christmas Plays acting as the director for many years, making many of the costumes herself. Socorro also took on a full time job at Ridgecrest Senior High School as a cafeteria worker for over 20 years.
She will be missed by her family, friends and was a great inspiration to all who came in contact with her and who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brookside Funeral Home - Cypress Creek on April 11, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
