Stella Hargett Hopper was born on January 25, 1918 and died April 24, 2015 at the age of 97. She was born in Cleveland, Texas and graduated from Humble High School. Stella may have been short in stature but that did not stop her from being fierce on the basketball court. Stella married Ardis C. Hopper in 1936 and was happily married until his death in 1991. Ardis and Stella spent their entire adult life in Houston, Texas where they raised two daughters: Janet Lynn and Sally Jean. Stella was the beloved Registrar at Lamar High School in Houston until she retired in 1976. She was a member of South Main Baptist Church since 1948. Family was everything to our grandmother. Countless hours were spent baking, cooking, nursing, comforting, hugging, listening, supporting, and loving each and every one of us. She never missed an opportunity to tell us how much we meant to her.
Stella is preceded in death by her husband Ardis, daughters Janet and Sally, and grandson Stephen Colfer. She is survived by 4 grandchildren: Cheryl (Ted) Whitefield, Bill (Lisa) Colfer, Claire (Steve) Binder, and Cindy Rowlett; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Blessed are we to have been able to share so much time and love with our grandmother. Her infections laughter and vast love will remain in our hearts forever.
