Stephen was full of life – a voracious reader, a lover of good Scotch and avid scholar of many things – science, jazz music and history. Stephen excelled in school at both Tulane University and MIT. Stephen was a Veteran of the Air Force and was very fond of Japan, where he was stationed.
Stephen especially enjoyed Egyptian history and collected many books and artifacts on the subject. Stephen loved telling stories to all who would listen. Stephen was also a talented drummer, or as he liked to put it, "percussionist".
Stephen loved to travel and experience all the world had to offer. He wasn’t afraid to experience new things like learning to scuba dive, sky diving and drive around a racetrack at 140 miles an hour. Stephen also loved to volunteer and dedicated many hours to volunteering with his local PBS Station as well as the Houston MIT Club and Houston Dance Cotillion.
Before he died, he was surrounded by friends and serenaded by a Scottish bagpiper. His daughter, Stephanie, plans to take a bit of Stephen with her when she travels to Scotland, a place he had always hoped to visit as he was so proud of his Scottish heritage.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest John Murdoch & Waty Bell Long Murdoch and his brother Samuel William Murdoch and his son Dean Duncan Murdoch.
Stephen will be missed by his daughter, Stephanie, his son Jim and Jim’s children, Juliet, Juliet’s husband Derek Richdale and their children Nora, Abigail & Penelope. Stephen will also be missed by the love of his life, Judy Armogida and her 3 children, Steven & his wife Beth, Anne & her husband Mark and Jimmy and his wife Courtney.

The Fallen Limb
A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me.” Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes we’re together again.
