Steve’s father, Yow Chow (aka: Hing Lum), and mother, Shook Ying Ng Chun, gave him a typical life as a Chinese-American boy in Houston, Texas. Growing up, he helped his family at their corner grocery store, played football at Hogg Junior High, and was the band’s drum major at Reagan High School. Then he was off to the University of Houston, where he earned his B.S. degree in Technology. It was also there that he met his wife-to-be, Bobbie.
Steve and Bobbie shared a busy life together for over 48 years. It was Steve’s servant heart that kept him busy and happy. He loved and served his family well, always available to make house and car repairs, take pictures, or do whatever was asked of him. In addition to his family, Steve loved God and served the church well in various ministries at Houston’s First Baptist Church, and prior at Chinese Baptist Church. Reaching out to serve his community, Steve was also involved in various organizations, including these, each of which he was a part of for several decades: Texas Baptist Men, Harris County Constable Pct. 1 - Reserves, and the Boy Scouts of America. Steve also served his employer, Brown and Root (later KBR), faithfully for over 42 years.
Steve will be missed by many and remembered as a humble servant of God. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Leo Chun; sons and their families: Steven Lum Chun, Matthew Lum Chun & Ly and Madelyn, Gregory Lum Chun, Geoffrey Lum Chun & Mia and Alex & Andrew; sister, Rebecca & Roger Rangel; many cousins in the Houston area & US.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Steve’s memory to Houston’s First Baptist Church, Chinese Baptist Church, Texas Baptist Men, or a charity of your choice.
