

Stuart was reared in Denver, Colorado. After graduating from Colorado State University (formerly Colorado A & M College), he began a lifelong career in forestry with the U. S. Forest Service in 1936 in Huntsville, Texas. He was later transferred to various states throughout the U. S. In 1949, the Service transferred him back to Texas where he continued his forestry work in Nacogdoches. In 1951, he moved to Houston and continued his work as an independent forestry consultant. Clients included the Trust Department of the First Hutchings-Sealy National Bank (the first bank in Texas and the first Texas bank to be chartered under the National Bank Act of 1865), the Bender Estate (residual of the Bender Lumber Company family), Rice University, and numerous other clients, some of whom were large timberland holders whose properties were condemned for the Lake Livingston Dam Project.
In August of 1977, Stuart married Marie L. Clark. They have been long time members of the First United Methodist Church of Houston, and the Adelphi Sunday School Class. He was a Lifetime Member of the Administrative Board and, along with Marie, taught a young adult Sunday school class for many years. Stuart and Marie were passionate about voluntary missionary service and participated in various mission trips to Mexico, South America, and Costa Rica. Stuart and Marie were world travelers and, along with friends, they toured the world far and wide.
Stuart is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ethny Clark; his brother, Howard Clark; son, John Stuart Clark; and step-daughter, Lynn Colbert. He is survived by his wife, Marie L. Clark; his son, Lee H. Clark and wife, Patricia; daughter, Rebecca L. Clark; step-son, Craig Clark and wife, Marlene; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
In appreciation, the family would like to acknowledge the loving care given by Lurlene Shaw, Viola Bailey, and Gabriel Oladimeji.
The family wishes to thank friends and loved ones who have been so dear throughout Stuart’s life.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until half-past seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 5th of May, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 6th of May, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main Street in Houston, where the Rev. Charles Thompson, Executive Pastor, and Allen Houk, Director of Communications, are to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, donations in Stuart’s name may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 1320 Main St, Houston, TX, 77002.
