Susan Marie Griffey, age 59, born in Rochester, New York, on the 1st of December 1952 to the late Leo Flick and Alice Essman, joyfully went to be with her Lord on the 3rd of December 2011 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Sue was a wonderful woman who always had a smile on her face, and joy in her heart. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Sue courageously battled cancer for six and a half years while accepting God’s plan for her life and continually being an inspiration to everyone around her. She had a true servant’s heart, always putting others before herself - even on her hardest days.
Sue was a long time member of Gateway Community Church in Webster, Texas, where she was baptized and rededicated her life to Christ. She developed many friendships, which helped forward her walk with Christ. Sue was a true believer and lead by example of what a wife, friend, and mother should be.
Sue attended the University of Texas - School of Dentistry, where she graduated as a Dental Hygienist. She received Magna Cum Laude and Valedictorian honors. During her career, she worked for Dr. Joe Shirley, Dr. Monte Moore, and Dr. Mike Moore of Clear Lake City.
Sue is survived by her husband, James Griffey of 27 years; her son, Justin Strood and wife, Laura; her grandchildren, Aleena and Emma Strood; her siblings: Donald, Steven, Joyce, Elizabeth; and their respective families.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 8th of December, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Her memorial service is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 9th of December, at Gateway Community Church, 760 Clear Lake City Boulevard in Webster, where Rev. Mike Myers, Hope and Support Pastor, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Life Center.
