Sylvester was born on September 14, 1935 to Quintin Sanchez and Beatrice Ramos, in the small town of Lott, Texas. Nicknamed “Villa” by his father, he grew up in Waco, Texas. He had three older sisters, Irene, Susie, and Lupita. He also had three younger siblings, Eva, Esther, and Tomas.
Sylvester joined the U.S. Army out of high school and served in Europe. He later returned to Waco, Texas, and worked for the RC Cola Company.
After moving to Houston, he met Mary Falcon, and they married on September 14, 1974. Their daughter, Ana Maria, was born in April of 1977.
Sylvester worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years, before retiring. He then kept busy working for Wal-Mart and then went on to work for Cy-Fair ISD. He was a transportation aide for disabled children for 10 years with the District, before retiring. Once again, he decided retirement wasn’t for him, and he had returned to Cy-Fair this school year.
Sylvester enjoyed classic cars, working outdoors, and exercising. He avidly collected coins and read the paper every day.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter, Ana, and son-in-law, Tony Morales; sisters Irene Castillo, Susie Cortez, Lupita Gobea, and Esther Rodriguez; his godchildren, Christopher Quiroga, and Julio and Nicole Martinez; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews throughout Texas.
