Tanya was born January 19, 1960 to the late Ruben and Odessa H. Vaughn in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was baptized at an early age and dedicated her life to serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, until her death. She was the youngest of seven children. She was educated through the New Orleans Public School system and graduated from Alcee Fortier High School. She attended Southern University at New Orleans where she received an Associate Degree and two Masters Degrees. She was last employed by the state of Louisiana.
Tanya was preceded in death by her parents Ruben Vaughn Sr. and Odessa H. Vaughn; her devoted husband of 34 years, Atwood O. Jones, Jr., and her sister, Barbara H. Gifford. She leaves to cherish her memory two children: Keia N. V. Jones (Terry), Kye M. V. Jones; two adoring grandchildren: Peyton E. Allen and Mason V. Allen; sister, Patrica Gail Vaughn; brothers, Robert (Cynthia), Ruben Jr. (Adrain), Barry (Alice), and Darryl (Susan). She was Teedie Mama to Alexis A. Vaughn, Juan G. Vaughn Jr, & The “Juangies”. She later met and married Jimmie L. Richardson; and a host of relatives and friends.
She resided in New Orleans, Louisiana most of her life until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city and forced her family to move to Manvel, Texas. She often returned to New Orleans to visit her grandchildren and outrageously spoiled the two apples of her eye. They never wanted their ‘Mimi’ to leave and go back to Texas.
The family acknowledges and offers heartfelt appreciation and love for all the prayers, condolences, cards, & gifts offered during our time of bereavement.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2”
Tanya, take your rest in the arms of our Lord… always remembered and forever loved.
“Our Family Chain…”
We little knew that morning that God would call your name.
In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
