Terry Louis Laughlin, 88, beloved husband, father, and friend to many, went to his eternal rest on Thursday, September 18, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois Marie Laughlin, three children and their spouses, and two grandchildren.
He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 30, 1925, to Tone and Cora Laughlin, and spent his childhood and adolescence in Coweta, Oklahoma. After graduating as the valedictorian of Coweta High School, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as a Naval Air Force navigator and achieved the rank of Lieutenant JG. After the war he earned both bachelor and masters degrees in music from the University of Oklahoma. He also met the love of his life, Lois Marie Roach. Together they embarked on a lifelong journey marked by many wonderful family events and personal achievements.
Thousands of high school band students in the greater Houston area will remember him as “the fund-raising guy” who, in the 60’s and 70’s, helped them raise the funds needed for new uniforms, instruments or out-of-town trips. He also coached his daughters’ softball team, became a ten-handicap golfer, and tirelessly supported his children’s school and athletic activities. For many years he was a regular at Hearthstone Country Club where he regaled his fellow players with his outrageous sense of humor. His gregarious spirit extended into his final days with neighbors and friends at Brookdale Retirement Community in Houston.
His family would like to thank all of his caregivers at Home Health Resources for their ongoing concern and loving attention. He will be sorely missed by all who knew his enthusiasm for life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
