Thomas Frederick Jaeger, age 68, died on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 5:22 PM. Tom was the sixth of eight children born to Alvin A. and Mary Kathleen Jaeger. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1968 and was drafted into the Army in 1973, where he proudly served in the 401st Armored Division. He was decorated for his outstanding abilities with .45 caliber pistols, hand grenades and M-16 rifles, and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1976.
He enjoyed a variety of jobs as a young man, including retail and television sales and repair. He loved his work long distance trucking until he was given a rig to drive to New York City in the wintertime. For the rest of his life, he would continue to pursue the joy and freedom of the open road by riding his Harley. He later went back to school to study technology and became a quality control manager for a manufacturer of medical stents and equipment.
Our brother Tom was, quite simply, a good man. He was authentic, kind, thoughtful and comfortable with silence. He chose to move back home with our mother in the last years of her life, which allowed her to remain in her home until her passing.
He had a dry wit and willingness to trade a friendly jab or jibe with a friendly grumble under his breath and a wink in his eye. He was a great tease with a big heart, who doted on and was dearly loved by his many nieces and nephews. Tom loved Houston Astros baseball and Houston Texans football and the watch parties and Super Bowl parties his brother, Will, hosted. Will and his wife, Kimberly opened their home to him and cared for him in his later life as his health declined.
We will miss our “teddy bear,” our “Santa Claus,” our brother and friend.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Anthony Jaeger, and sister Joan Anita Powell Maniag. Tom is survived by his sisters: Mary Kay Stetson of Richardson, Texas; Claudia Dolezal and husband Fred of Carroll, Iowa; Elizabeth Anthony of Greensboro, North Carolina; Clare Friedman and husband Tom, of Houston, Texas; and brother, Will Jaeger and wife Kimberly of Houston, Texas, as well as 21 nieces and nephews and 28 great-nieces and nephews.
