
He was born to parents Marvin Andrew King and Mary Addie King, in Garrison, Texas. who preceded him in death. Tommie attended Garrison School District. After high school, Tommie enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country, which was currently engaged in the Korean War.
After enlisting, he married the love of his life, Wanda Jean Adkison on November 24, 1954, who preceded him in death on April 18, 2025.
The couple moved around quite a bit with the Army and eventually settled in their forever home in 1960, in the Spring Branch area of Houston, Texas.
Tommie was employed by Houston Lighting and Power, where he began as a meter reader. He held positions as Meter Reader, Lineman's Helper, Trouble Shooter, Field Service Representative and with hard work and dedication, he eventually worked his way up to Field Service Representative Leader. He retired after almost 40 years.
The couple never had any biological children, however, they leave
behind a host of close friends which includes Bessie Mansfield their
"daughter" as well as their "son", Alvin Ervin (Kathy), "grandchildren", Sharnel Basir (Sami), Gary L. Kelley (Ashley), Jared A. Ervin, "great grandson", Ocean Phillips, and God-daughter Shari Bumpas. Tommie will be missed by all that knew and loved him, especially his dog Cupid.
