
On June 22, 1921, the 7th of 9 children, a baby boy was born to Ella Harrison-Jordan and John Henry Jordan; whom they named UN Jordan. Upon finishing high school, in Brazoria County, it was the teacher’s request to give him a name for the initials UN. From that day forward, UN became Umbre Nelson Jordan, Sr. Umbre Nelson Jordan, Sr. (Honey). married Freddie Lee Woodard on September 24, 1943. After marriage, Umbre became a successful entrepreneur, hauling sheetrock for the local trucking companies, for over 20 years. Jordan Hauling Contractor was established in 1945. He represented a young black entrepreneur and leader for his community. While being the boss, Umbre tilled the family’s land with Alphonze Jordan (Baby), in Brazoria County, until 2015. They raised cattle and kept the family’s land as long as physically possible. Umbre Nelson Jordan, Sr. (Honey) departed this life on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; seven siblings; son, Perry Jordan; daughter, Deneise Moss; and grandson, Shannon Roberson. Left to cherish his precious memory are his wife, Freddie Lee Jordan; sister, Thelma Rutledge (Baby Ruth); son, Umbre Nelson Jordan, Jr.; daughter, Shirley Jordan; five grandchildren Nanyamka Moss, Shaneka Jeffery, Perry Jordan, Hershal Jeffery, and Howard Jeffery, Jr.; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church community family, and friends.
