Upul Anuruddha Aturaliye, 54, passed away on January 31st, 2021. He was born on November 27th, 1966, the son of Dr. Deva and Shiromi Aturaliye. Anura (Anuru, Aththa, Andy) was raised in Kandy, Sri Lanka and was a proud product of Trinity College, Kandy. He was the Senior Prefect, captained the cricket team, won the Cricket Lion and won the Ryde Gold Medal in an illustrious career at Trinity. He qualified to enter the Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya in 1985. He immigrated to the United States in 1989 and spent two terms at the University of Minnesota (Duluth). He finished his undergraduate engineering degree, with Magna Cum Laude honors at Cal State Los Angeles (LA). He finished a Masters in Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M, in1996. He married Janaki Wallooppillai in 1994.
He was a civil engineer, Project Manager and a Senior Project Manager at Waste Management, CDM Smith, Amec Foster Wheeler (now Wood) and finally at Weston Engineering. In his spare time, he loved to potter in his garden, travel, hike, bike, take wildlife photographs, play and watch cricket. He got distracted by big dogs (particularly German Shepherds), YouTube videos of old cricket matches and sports cars. All who came into his circle, left with the impression that they were lucky to have met a true gentleman. He was a role model and mentor from his days at Trinity to his working days. He was always one to see the lighter side of life and added a calm warmness to any room. He was sanguine, loyal and was the one relative or friend that we all could count on. He will be sorely missed by all. He is survived by his wife, his parents and brother.
