Valda June (Thompson) Prince went peacefully to be with God in glory on December 14, 2010. She was born on March 12, 1931, and was a native Houstonian. Valda will be remembered for her love of life shared with her family and friends. Every encounter with her was filled with beauty, generosity, surprise and laughter. The way she chose to live was a true example of faith and love in action. Those who knew her could not help but feel treasured and significant when in her presence. She had the wisdom to look past one’s faults to see the best in everyone.
Valda graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1951 and remained in the Houston area to pursue her career and later start a family. Her children, James and Angie, grew up with an adoring and devoted mother who loved nothing more than investing in their hearts and their character. Later, she showered her precious grandchildren with the same love and affection.
Living in the Spring Branch community over fifty years, Valda was a sought out and generous leader. She served in many civic and school activities alongside lifetime friends drawn to her creativity and enthusiasm. She later applied her experience and competence in the work place at The Houstonian, Vinson and Elkins, and The Forum at Memorial Woods. Valda especially cherished her countless friendships within the Tuesday Women’s Bible Study Group which she helped found thirty-nine years ago.
She is survived by her children, James Prince Jr. and wife Diane, Angie Mentz and husband Rob, grandchildren; Candyce Prince, James Mentz and Daniel Mentz and her sister, Sandra Robertson.
