

Velma Mae Ray Mingo was born on October 20, 1935, to the late James and Beatrice Williams, in Houston, Texas. Velma attended Jack Yates High School, and later studied nursing obtaining her license March 20, 1969. For over 31 years, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital providing excellent care and comfort to every patient.
Velma met the love her life and United in Holy Matrimony on May 10, 1964, to Samuel Herbert Mingo. Together they raised a beautiful, blended family with daughters, JoVon Williams and Patricia Ann Harris.
Velma faithfully served the Lord from an early age and was a member of The Ebenezer House of Prayer. Velma followed the call of the Lord and attended Bible College. She served her church family in many roles including, First Lady, leading Women’s Bible study, mentoring young women, and bringing many souls to the Lord. God laid his faithful servant down gently to rest on October 15, 2024.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Samuel Mingo of 56 years; daughter, Patricia Ann Harris; brother, Bernistine Williams; sister-in-law, Rachel Williams; and grandson, Kevin Harris.
Velma’s love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her sister-in-law, Julia Coleman; daughter, JoVon Williams; grandson, Jonathan Harris Cooper; wife, Caronda Williams Cooper; grandson, Eurich Germaine Williams; granddaughter-in-law, Shawndra Harris (Kevin); numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and treasured friends.
