

Vera Mae “Beme” Rainey Tusa Watts age 91 passed away after a long illness on August 12, 2012. She was born July 25, 1921 to Walter “Papaw” and Beulah “Mamaw” Rainey in Houston, the oldest of siblings Georgia, Anna, Orval Lee, and Walter, Jr. She attended school in Houston and graduated from San Jacinto High School.
In 1972 she married C. Arliss Watts, and they made their home in Sugarland. They were involved in many different organizations, including Southwest-Central Church of Christ, and were members of the Sugar Creek Country Club for over 30 years. Beme loved to entertain.
Vera Mae (Beme) leaves behind many friends and family members. She was loved by all who knew her. Beme loved to laugh, and she had a distinctive laugh which cheered those around her. She will be missed by her three children and their families: Ed and Barbie Tusa of Richmond, Debbie Tusa of Houston, and David and Eva Tusa of Sugarland. Other family members who will continue to cherish their memories of her are sister, Anna and Jean Tarbutton, and her brother, Orval Lee Rainey. Her stepchildren and families will also miss her: Fran and Don Hutcherson of Sanger, Nancy and Steve Martin of Austin, and Peggy and Dale Piletere of Richmond. She also leaves behind a total of fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Beme will also be missed by her caregiver Victoria Robinson.
Beme delighted her children and grand-children with beautifully wrapped packages and unusual and delicious food. She was truly a gourmet cook and cooked by taste more than recipe. She enjoyed golf and bridge and traveled extensively. Some of her favorite places were Palm Desert and Lake Tahoe where she spent many summers.
Beme was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arliss Watts, sisters Georgia Retzloff and Martha Helen Rainey who died in infancy, and her brother Walter Rainey, Jr.
The honorary pall bearers are Danny Tusa, Dustan Hahnel, Ben Rhodes, Aaron Piletere, Brian Hutcherson, and John Kelly Jr.
Visitation will be at 11:00am August 16 and Funeral services will be at 2:00pm at Forest Park Westheimer in Houston. Committal to Follow.
