Verda Denice Jordan was born on September 13, 1957, in Houston, Texas, to Clarence Battle and Dorothy Johnson. She was the third of six children and from an early age showed a heart full of love, a spirit rooted in kindness, and a strength that would carry her through life’s challenges and triumphs.
She was educated in the Houston Independent School District and proudly graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School, Class of 1976. She later earned an Associate Degree, furthering her education and deepening her commitment to personal growth and excellence. During her school years and beyond, Verda built lifelong friendships and cultivated her deep sense of compassion and service.
Verda married Lloyd Jordan later in life. Together, they built a strong and faithful union grounded in love, respect, and shared purpose. Their relationship was a beautiful testament to partnership, family, and devotion.
As a mother, Verda poured her heart into raising her children. Her unwavering love, steady guidance, and fierce protectiveness shaped their lives and gave them strength. She led by example—teaching grace through action, and love through consistency.
Family meant everything to Verda. She embraced her role as grandma with pure joy, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Whether cheering from the sidelines or offering quiet wisdom, her presence was a source of constant encouragement and pride.
Verda had a quiet, nurturing presence that drew people to her. She was a listening ear, a peacemaker, and a safe place for many. Her strength was gentle but firm, and her love was unconditional. She found joy in the simple things—spending time with family, listening to music, laughing with her sisters, or baking one of those huge cakes.
She filled her home with comforting aromas, delicious food, and warmth that made everyone feel loved. She also found peace and focus in working puzzles, and took pride in her skill and creativity with sewing.
She was a beloved sister to her siblings, with whom she shared not only a lifetime of memories but a deep, unbreakable bond. She also had a deep love for her nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family—each held a special place in her heart.
Verda transitioned peacefully from this life on July 8, 2025. Though she is no longer physically present, her legacy lives on—in the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the faith she carried.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Battle and Dorothy Johnson and brothers, Darryl Battle and Tyrone Battle. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Lloyd Jordan; her loving daughters, Amina Garcia and Porscher Battle (John); caring bonus children, Roderick Jordan (Erica), Crystal Jordan (Frank), Larnita Jordan, Amfonique Windom (Loucious); her cherished grandchildren, Nicolas Garcia, Caleb Freeman, Roderick Jr., Reagan, Ri’Chard, Joey, Michaela, Frank III, Bryson, Londin, and Loucious Jr..; her brother, Norris Battle (Regina); her sisters, Gisele Battle and Rosalyn Battle; her aunt, Allie Ellis; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends
