Vernell DORN

14 janvier 19425 mai 2021

Vernell was born to William and Louise Mullinax Washington on Tuesday, January 14th, 1941 in Marlin, TX. In her teens, she and her family relocated to Midland, TX where she later met her husband Billy Roy Dorn. The two married Monday, May 25th 1959 and started their family in Houston, TX.

Vernell spent 40+ years as a salon owner and beautician. She was incredibly dedicated to not only curating healthy hair, but also treating each of her customers like family. Through the years, many of Vernell’s client relationships transitioned into lifelong family friends.

In March 2021, Vernell finally said, “I’m retiring. I told myself once I turn 80 I’m done doing hair.” And now, she has officially hung up her scissors.

Vernell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two older siblings Roy and Vera and grandson Chance.

She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy; her siblings, Charles Washington & Mary Mitchell; her three children, Bridget A. Kirksey, Billy Wayne Dorn (daughter-in-law Patrica Dorn), & April N. Walter (son-in-law Robert Walter III); four grandchildren Shabreka Ogundipe (grandson-in-law Adeola Ogundipe), Asia Holbert (grandson-in- law Quentin Holbert), J’Mor “Leafy” Walter, N’Dia Walter; five great grandchildren Jaylnn & Nathaniel Kirksey, Grayson & Gavin Ogundipe, & Aria Holbert; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

There will never be enough words to describe the incredibly SPECIAL & majestic force that was Vernell Dorn. Her hilarious and beautiful spirit will continue to live on through her descendants and beyond.
