

Veronica (also known as Ron and Ronnie) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Victoria Green-Washington and Nicholas Washington on August 12, 1937. She moved to Houston, Texas with her family at the age of eight. Veronica graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1955. She continued her education at Texas Southern University where she studied home economics. Veronica dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. In fact, she was baptized in the cold waters of the Mississippi River alongside her brother Lester. Veronica attended Starlight Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Turney. She was an active usher and choir member. She also attended Wright Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member of the choir. She later became a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend F. D. Anderson. She understood that being a Christian took work. She studied the scriptures and prayed to ensure that she was following the Lord's path for her. When she walked into the church on Sundays, she had a smile on her face. When she was able, she loved to attend Sunday school, bible study, and prayer meetings. She served at Mt. Pisgah until her death. Veronica and Willie Hamilton met as youths growing up in the Acres Homes community. They became best friends and were united in Holy Matrimony by Reverend Turney on August 22, 1958. This union brought forth three children: Willie Jr., Shawn, and Monica. Veronica and Willie spent their retirement years enjoying each other's company. Veronica was a loving and dedicated wife for 45 years. Veronica's interest included cooking, baking cakes and tea cakes, sewing, reading, and gardening. Upon her retirement as a housekeeper, she devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to Willie when he became ill. She cared for him until his death in 2004. Veronica will be remembered for her quiet and mild spirit. Veronica loved her family and friends and will be remembered for her dedication to them. She was proud of everyone and wanted everyone to be happy and live life to the fullest. Veronica is survived by her three children and two daughter-in-laws, Willie Hamilton, Jr. and his wife Sharon (Tomball), Shawn Hamilton and his wife Shaundra (The Woodlands), and Monica Hamilton (Houston); Her three grandchildren, Jacobie, Victoria, and Joshua; Her two brothers, Junius Washington and Lester Washington, both of Houston. One sister, Eunice Lane of New Orleans and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends
