Victoria Yi Chee, dearly beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 79.
She is survived by her six children: Clinton, Maria, Arnold, Benson, Shirley, and Wayne; her six grandchildren: Brandon, Dawson, Jason, Michael, Mason, and Timothy; and her cherished niece, Heaven.
Victoria was born in Havana, Cuba on August 19, 1945 to Luis Yi and Su Ja Tan. She was the youngest of nine children: Leon Yi (d. 2015), Luisa Yi Chao (d. 2022), Elisa Josefina Yi Yick, Luis Yi Jr. (d. 1944), Rita Yi Chin, Ana Yi Goon, Lilia Yi Chan (d. 2022), and Carlos Yi (d. 1943). In 1960 she immigrated to the United States with her mother and two of her sisters, and lived in Miami, FL for four years. She spoke English, Spanish, and Chinese.
In 1964 she married Fon Chee, who was the eldest of nine children. She moved to live with him in Houston, TX, where she would spend the rest of her life. She became a naturalized citizen in 1972. After her husband passed away in 1980, she was blessed with support from multiple family members, including her parents-in-law Herbert and Kim, and her in-laws, Art and Winsome. Throughout her life Victoria faced chronic health challenges, but with sacrifices from her children Maria and Arnold, and sustained by her love for her family, she continued to endure. She often told her children, "If you're okay, I'm okay," a testament to how much their well-being meant to her.
Her ashes will be laid to rest with her late husband Fon (1942-1980) at Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
Victoria will be deeply missed by those who loved her. In her own words, "Thank you for everything you're doing, have a nice day." Memories or stories are welcome to be shared using the links below.
