Virginia Murdaugh Hughes

Virginia Murdaugh, age 86 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 4, 2015. Virginia, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother began her life journey on September 10, 1929 in Palestine, Texas.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas. Virginia was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. After graduation, she married Irby Bennett Hughes, Jr. in 1952. They moved to Houston where Virginia taught school for over 10 years in the Houston Independent School District.

Virginia was an active member at Grace Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Houston Republican Party and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Hughes was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Irby Bennet Hughes, Jr. She is survived by her son Irby Bennett Hughes III and wife Angela Hughes; daughter Helen Hughes Roessler and husband Andrew Roessler; grandsons, Dean Hughes, Noah Hughes, and Andrew Roessler, Jr.; sister Inez Murdaugh Smith; nieces Beverly Beck and Gail Kelly and nephew Hugh Summers.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on October 19, 2015 at Grace Presbyterian Church located at 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, Texas 77042. The family request that memorial contributions be made to UT MD Anderson Center, P.O. Box 301439, Houston, Texas 77230.
