

Vivian Raye Spiller Walker was born on September 28, 1948, the first child of Minnie Mae Qualls and the late Oliver Jean Spiller in Evergreen, TX. She graduated from Kashmere Garden Junior/Senior High School in Houston, TX 1966. She received her B.A. of Education in 1969 and Masters Degree in Mid-Management from Prairie View A&M University. On August 23, 1969, she was united in marriage for 43 years to Carver Wallace Walker and they were blessed with two children, Dominick Michael Walker and Brea Dominique Walker. She began her teaching career at Fonwood Elementary in the North Forest Independent School District. She also participated in the Teach for America program as a teacher mentor. Her diverse interests led her to briefly pursue a sales career at Global Services Inc. and World Book Encyclopedia. Shortly after this experience she returned to Houston Independent School District to the classroom and then went on to serve as a Title I Instructional Supervisor for HISD where she retired after 28 years. After retirement and through her illness, she worked with the Houston Community College as an Instructional Specialist. We will always remember Vivian’s smile, her elegance and her love for celebrating life’s precious moments with friends and family. She embraced her community and was a consistent presence, always there for her loved ones. Her unique gift gave her the ability to make all of her friends feel special. Vivian was a faithful servant within her church and an active community participant. She was a Lecturer and Catechism teacher at St. Monica Catholic Church. She was also a member of Saint Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and a devoted member of the Mu Kappa Omega, Missouri City Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She leaves a legacy of memories, her devoted husband, Carver Walker; two children, Dominick Walker and Brea Walker; granddaughter, Nima Cari Walker; her mother, Minnie Mae Webb; sister, Vernon Spiller Chambers; brother, Maurice Sebastien; step-father, LC Webb, brother-in-laws Buford Chambers and Michael Walker, sister-in-laws Edwina Sebastien, Ellen Walker and daughter-in-law, Carita Shanklin Walker; niece Alicia Sebastien, nephews, Vincent Chambers and Basil Maurice Sebastien, II, Vori Walker, Damian Walker and numerous loving Aunts; Missouri, Jimmy Lee, Inez, and Marie and a host of other relatives and friends.
