Wanda Lee (Williams) Curlee went peacefully to the Lord on January 31, 2020. Wanda was born in the small town of Richards, Texas on March 31,1927. Her childhood with grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins along with Richards Baptist Church created a loving and active environment, where young Wanda could thrive. Her family moved to Houston, Texas during WWII and she enrolled in Reagan High School to complete her final year of schooling.
ln January, 1946 she met the love of her life, Arthur James Curlee, Jr. (A.J.). They eloped in June of 1946 and began their journey of sixty-two years. That same year, A. J. accepted a position with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company now AT&T where he retired in 1981 and Wanda accepted a position at Reagan Bank now Chase Bank where she retired in 1987. Their home was completed in 1947 in Lindale Park in Houston where they settled in to create a loving home. They welcomed their first child, Cheri Lynn on January 13, 1950 and their second child, Danny James on June 4, 1952.
Wanda and A. J. enjoyed a happy life of work ans play. Dedicated to the Lord, they joined Lindale Baptist Church where they worked as leaders with teenagers and later served in many other roles. Their lives revolved around activities at the church along with boating, skiing and family and friends. Wanda was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed sewing clothes for the family and decor for the home. Wanda's career at the bank continued to provide purpose and she rose through the ranks to break the glass ceiling. She loved to stay busy and mentor others so the responsibility in banking allowed her to flourish. Her title before retiring in 1987 was Senior Executive Vice President.
ln retirement, Wanda and A. J. enjoyed their lake house on Lake Livingston and their many friends at Onalaska Baptist Church. They traveled to complete over 50 trips in the U.S. and several overseas. After A. J. passed away on July 2, 2008; Wanda continued to travel with family and friends.
We want to express a sincere thank you to her caregivers Latoya Roberts and Sondra Williams, The Sisters, family, friends and to the end-of-life caregivers at Hospice.
