On November 12, 1943, Joyce Ledgister gave birth to a bouncing baby boy in the parish of Kingston, Jamaica. She named him Warrington Earl. The name Warrington is of English origin meaning “watch” or “guard.” This represented some of his characteristics. Warren, as he was affectionately called, was left in the care of his doting grandmother and his ever-loving Aunt Kitty.
After primary school, Warren gained a scholarship and attended Kingston Technical High School. He was a good student and excelled in all his studies. After graduating from high school, he worked for a time at Jamaica Public Service.
Like most young people in Jamaica, Warren, wanting to make a better life for himself migrated to the United States in the summer of 1965. He settled in New York. However, in December of that same year, at the height of the Vietnam war, he decided to serve his new found country, so he joined the army. He spent two years in the service, mainly in Vietnam with two months in Cambodia. Although many years have passed, Warren had vivid memories of the war which haunted him constantly. He served as radio operator in the army.
Warren met and fell in love with Valerie McLarty. They were married in May 1968. The union produced two children, Stephanie and Jonathon. He was a family man who went above and beyond to make sure his family was well taken care of. He worked for many years at United Parcel Service. Always wanting to make life better for his family, he moved to Texas in June 1980. His first job in Texas was at Texas Instrument at 290 plant until its closing. Later he worked at Shaffer (Varco), OYO Geospacer, and Tenaris (cut and shoot.)
Warren made his presence felt in the community. He was totally involved in the school life of his children. While his daughter, Stephanie was in high school, he volunteered actively in the Eisenhower band, (1990-1993) Realizing the importance of the band he made a stand on which the band director could mount while directing the band. Later, when it was Jonathon’s time, he assisted in coaching Little League baseball and soccer at the YMCA. Additionally, he helped in Scout Troop 1659.
Warren and his family were members of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church. He was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus Council. 2033, 7901, and 10861. He would assist the growth of the church in whatever way he could.
He was a “jack of all trades” excelling in whatever he put his hands to. His chosen career was maintenance electrician, but he was also a skilled carpenter. He loved gardening, taking pride in his rose bushes. Music was one of his passions having been a D J when he lived in New York. His large collection of L P records is a testimony of his love for music.
Warren has left a life of legacy of unselfish service to others. He used his skills, abilities, wisdom, knowledge, and expertise to benefit mankind. He was dedicated, loyal, and committed in what he believed to be true and right. Warren has “fought a good fight” and “kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for [him] a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give [him] at that day … 2 Timothy 4: 7-8.
Although Warren was a healthy man with a strong body and sound mind his health began to deteriorate later in his life. Life for him became a “battle and a march”. He struggled daily to cope with his illness. Through it all he was a fighter. On August 8, 2025, at 3:30 pm, Warren closed his eyes for the last time.
He will always be remembered in the hearts of Valerie (spouse), his children Stephanie (Mike Will), Jonathon (Dedria), grandchildren: DAsijah, Dyani, and Cam Ron. Brothers: Brandon (Samantha), Paul & Michael. Sisters: Millicent (Henry), Sister Mary Jude, Tania, & Ingrid. Brother-in-law Courtney (Cherry), Sisters -in-law: Denise, Althea, & Francine, Mother-in-law Sylvia McLarty. Many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a host of friends.
