He moved to Houston where he met and married Verdie Lee Young in 1955.
Wilbert enjoyed listening to the blues, fishing, baseball, watching tv westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren when he wasn’t working as Supervisor at ARI where he retired after 40 years.
He is survived by Wilbert Jr., Josephine (h)Melvin Pickney, Wilma (h)Frank Jackson, Willie, Barbara (h)Alex Woodard, Robert (w) Sylvia and Jackie (h)Willie Drew. Four sisters Della Graves, Shirley Beasley, Diane Shepherd Hicks and Barbara Smith. Six brothers Edell, Freddie, Henry, Edward Shepherd, Andrew and Joe (Jack) Abbs.
A funeral service for Wilbert will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A committal service will occur Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Cemetery Beautiful, 8401 Wheatley, Houston, TX 77088. A visitation will occur Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
