William A. (Wick, as he was known to family and old friends) Cannon left us on December 18, 2024, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife of 10 years Audrey; parents Larry and Suzy; brother Scott; parents-in-law Nice and James, brother-in-law Glenn; various uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins; puppies Napoleon and Josephine.
Born in Temple, Texas, Wick played competitive tennis from the age of 8, starting in Georgia through to high school where he graduated from Kingwood High School in 1985. He went on to play college tennis at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where he graduated with a BSBA-MIS. Later he received his MBA-Finance, International Business from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, TX. He continued to play competitively throughout his adult life through various clubs, where he met Audrey in early 2012. After not knowing what a “Wick” was, Audrey quickly decided to rename him back to William, and the couple known affectionately by many as “A&W” was born. Engaged in Paris, they were married December 27, 2014, at the co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston, TX. When not working or with family, they spent much of their time traveling together. Favorite spots included Paris, New York, Sardegna, Siberia and Santorini.
Wick spent his entire career in financial services with VALIC (now Corebridge). He made many friends of long-time colleagues during his tenure, and was known for his intelligence, work ethic, inclusivity, good humor and ability to simplify the most complex situations. His greatest joy was helping others; he loved recruiting, teaching and helping others reach their full potential. His genuine kindness and positive spirit inspired those around him, creating a lasting impact on company culture. He will be deeply missed by all his colleagues and friends there.
Growing up, Wick was an active Christian and member of the United Methodist Church. Prior to his marriage to Audrey, he converted to Catholicism and was comforted by his faith throughout his illness.
A funeral mass will be held at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston, TX 77002 on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10:00 am.
A celebration of life event will be announced soon.
