

William attended Clear Creek High School and later met the love of his life, Melba Tiner, in Houston, Texas, on Christmas Day in 1964. They married on July 23, 1965, and shared 60 wonderful years together.
William had a distinguished career as an EENT hospital corpsman and biomedical engineer. He also served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America in both Texas and Washington State. A proud veteran, William served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard. The ship operated in the Western Pacific as part of the Seventh Fleet during the Vietnam War.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Mayfield; his mother, Myrtle (Turner) Mayfield; his brother-in-law, Jackie Myers; his sister-in-law, Martha (Tiner) Pitzer; his best friend and brother-in-law, Larry Mayes; his sister-in-law, Gladys Mayes; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Williams.
William is survived by his devoted wife, Melba Mayfield; his son, William T. Mayfield Jr., and his wife, Tina; his daughter, Deborah Stone, and her longtime companion, Joseph Cameron; and his daughter, Wendy Knowlton, and her husband, Stephen.
William cherished his role as a grandfather to Michaela (Stone) Gregory and her husband, Carson; Jared Mayfield; Allison Mayfield; Kaelan Mayfield; Jaymz Knowlton; Elijah Knowlton; Jacob Mayfield; Rhys Knowlton; Sydnee Carlson; and Zachary Carlson. He also adored being a great-grandfather to Ryland Mayfield, Aiden Carlson, Jaxson Ross, Arabella Ross, Catalina Formica, and McKenzie Carlson.
He is survived by his sister, Carol Myers-Williams; his brother, Kenneth Mayfield, and his wife, Suzy; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
William will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and his dedication to helping others through scouting and his professional career. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
