He is survived by his children Beth Smith Gonzales and husband Vidal, Lloyd Smith and wife Amy and grandchildren, Ryan and Natalie Gonzales and Roman Smith.
He faithfully served his country during the Korean War as a gunner in the Navy. He worked for 25 years for Anchor Hocking Corp and in his "retirement" for over 10 years at Bering's Hardware. Gene will always be remembered as "The Mayor of Longmont" and a proud Auburn alumnus. War Eagle! Memorial services to be held 10am on Saturday, July 23 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
