Bill was a First Lieutenant in Patton's Third Army and was awarded the Purple Heart in 1945 for wounds he sustained in Luxembourg in the aftermath of the Battle of the Bulge. He was also awarded the Silver Star Medal for deterring an attack by the Germans in France.
Bill moved to Houston in 1951, working in the engineering field. He was a long-time member of Memorial Drive Lutheran Church. Bill was predeceased in 2013 by his wife of 66 years, Helen, and by his brother, Michael, and his sisters Mary Kline, Helen Homich, and Ann Slavik. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Chester Hayden, and many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
