

Willie Jean Gamble was born March 31, 1946, in Crockett, Texas to Eugene and Cloteal Gamble, Sr. She was the second child born of seven siblings. She was cherished, spoiled, and loved by her parents and older brother.
Willie began her educational career at Ralph Bunch Elementary School in Crockett, Texas.
The family moved to Houston, Texas where she continued her education at Dogan Elementary School and graduated from Kashmere Gardens High School in 1964. Willie attended Texas Southern University Fall of 1964 majoring in Early Childhood Education. Later she began working as a teacher in Head Start where she remained for over 25 years. She then began working at Thurgood Marshall Early Childhood Program in North Forest Independent School District. She worked there until her health began to decline.
Willie was baptized at an early age and participated in Sunday school and Tom Thumb weddings held at the church. Later her family moved membership to Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C. L. Punch in the early 50’s. She was a very active member in church where she participated in choir, Sunday school, Bible school, and mission. Willie later joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the
leadership of Pastor Dr. Stanley T. Hillard where she was involved in numerous church auxiliaries and activities.
On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, after a lengthy illness The Lord our GOD in His infinite wisdom, transitioned a faithful servant, Willie Jean Gamble, home to receive her reward. She was surrounded by her family as she entered her heavenly home. Her memory and legacy will live on forever. Willie was called home to be with the Lord. Her parents, Eugene and Cloteal Wagner Gamble, and brothers, Eugene and Gene Gamble preceded her in death.
She is survived by her four siblings: Clota Rainey, Vida Gamble, Sibbie Curry (Bobby), and John Gamble (Grace), sister-in-law Ruby Gamble, Uncle Bobbie Ford, Aunt Connie Humber, close friends Patricia Nichols, Lola Boutte and a host of nieces and nephews, and other close relatives and friends.
