A native Houstonian, she grew up in Park Place. After graduating from the U of H, she married her Milby High School sweetheart, Burke, a noted Houston architect. She was a 50 year member of Chapter BA of PEO and last fall the Blue Bird Circle honored her for being their oldest, active volunteer. St. Martin’s Episcopal Church was very much a part of her life. Her volunteer experiences through the Altar Guild, the Gathering, Saintly Stitchers and as flower chairman for the Garden of the Cross reflected her love of sewing, cooking and flowers. She will truly miss her many church and bridge friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Bradford and her husband John; grandson, John Bradford and his fiancée Heather Hineline; granddaughter, Susan Weaver and her husband Kyle; her two great grandchildren, Denali and Layla Weaver; her brother, Harvey Wolfer and his wife Pat; her sister, Kay Joiner and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert Joiner; and her many special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 11th of February, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Richard H. “Dick” Elwood and the Rev. John R. Bentley, Jr. are to officiate.
In lieu customary remembrances and flowers, contributions in Willie Mae’s honor may be directed to the Blue Bird Circle, 615 West Alabama St., Houston, TX, 77006; or to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church for the Garden of the Cross and the Gathering, 717 Sage Rd., Houston, TX, 77056.
