

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Queen Willie Mae Scott, who was born on September 25, 1933, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Clarence Clark Sr. and Lula Mae Johnson. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and entrepreneur, Queen Willie Mae lived a life full of love, resilience, and dedication to her community.
Queen Willie Mae's journey took her from Louisiana to Houston, Texas, where she married James Davis Scott. Together, they built a life centered around family and hard work. As an entrepreneur, Mrs. Scott was the proud owner of La Chateau Lounge, a staple in Houston's 3rd Ward for over 30 years. Through her business, she became a cherished figure in the community, known for her kindness, generosity, and the welcoming environment she created for all who entered.
She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Beatrice Scott Bartlett and Christina Abdul-Hameen, and her son, James Scott Downey. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her grandsons, Blake Bartlett, Bennie Clark, and Andre Clark, as well as her granddaughter, Dequita Trenice Clark. Her family also includes a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Queen Willie Mae’s impact was felt by all who knew her. She was a woman of faith, compassion, and grace, and her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a pillar of her family and community, and her love will never be forgotten.
