Willis was a CPA by trade, but turned to real estate development in the late 1970’s. Very successful, he developed several projects and used his profits to benefit others.
He was an original member of the Silver Spur Club of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR) where he helped purchase several Champion Steers to help numerous young people of Texas further their education. He was also a member of the HLSR International Committee where he served as a Diplomat, and a member of the HLSR Wine Committee. Willis was proud to serve as a Lifetime Director of HLSR.
Additionally, his interest in Texas history led him to serve as an Advisory Director of The Former Texas Ranger Foundation in Fredericksburg, Texas. Willis was extremely active in outdoor activities, from traveling all over the world on hunting trips. His favorite pastime was his involvement in boating activities. He could always be seen and heard in his Outer Limits power boat on Lake Conroe. He traveled from Texas, Oklahoma and Florida to participate in Power Boat Competitions as a member of The Texas Offshore Performance Power Boat Squadron (TOPPS) where he served as former President of the group.
Willis is survived by his daughter, Holly Marburger; his grandsons, Christian Marburger and Willis Marburger III; his sister, Lorene Hutchins and her husband Harold; his nieces, Colleen Bruce and Cindy Almond; and nephew Lance Hutchins.
A celebration of his life is to be held from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 8th of August, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Ed Lester, Richard Armstrong, Mike Wells, Jr., Jill Letbetter, Sandy Holberg, John Hodges and James Martin.
At a later date the family will gather for a private interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in his name be directed to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, NRG Center, 3 NRG Park, Houston, Texas 77054.
