

The Lord called Wilma home on June 6, 2025. Wilma was born June 21, 1933, to Johnie and Virgie Nettles in Houston, Texas. She lived in Houston all her life. She met the love of her life, Horace Carnes when he returned from serving in the Army in 1956.
Wilma was the first and only organist at Hibbard Memorial Baptist Church when they built a new auditorium September 1958. When they closed the church, the organ was given to John Ralston United Baptist Church December 3, 1995, and she continued to play the same organ until January 2013. Wilma worked alongside of Horace for 50 years taking care of the bookkeeping for their business Carnes Bulldozer Services.
She was preceded in death by her parents Johnie and Virgie Nettles, sister Betty McGrew and grandchild Dylan Gardner. Wilma leaves to cherish her memory, husband of 69 years Horace, her daughters, Alana Lenz & husband Kelly, and Beverly Gardner. Her grandchildren Darlene Hanson & husband Kash, Blake & wife Brittany Ritchie, Heather Jackson & husband Jordan, and Steven Gardner. Her great grandchildren, Kamdyn Hanson, Emrie and Cooper Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 17th at 1PM with the funeral service beginning at 2PM at Brookside Funeral Home. 13747 Eastex Freeway Houston, Texas 77039.
