

Dwight passed away peacefully in his home on January 5, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 89 years old. Dwight was born on June 8, 1935 in Oklahoma to John Harper Trammell & Ethel Green Trammell. Dwight had two brothers, RB Trammell & JR Trammell and one sister Betty Blagg (Nee Trammell). Dwight married Shirley Anne Winter in December of 1953. They were married for 58 years before Shirley’s passing in September 2011. Dwight and Shirley had two (2) children, Brian & Brenda Trammell. Dwight is survived by eight (8) grandchildren: Dan Castro, David Castro, Tim Copeland, Brianna Trammell, Brandon Trammell, Amber Trammell, Amanda Salas, and Kori Overweg. Thirteen (13) great grandchildren and his sister Betty also survive Dwight. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, wife, children, and one (1) great granddaughter.
Dwight’s family moved to Modesto, Ca. when he was a young boy and he remained an active member of the community throughout his lifetime. Dwight graduated from Modesto High School in 1953. He served as a machinist in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He continued service in the Reserves until 1963.
Dwight was a prominent businessman and farmer in Modesto. He was beloved by many in the community. He seemed to have friends and colleagues wherever he went. Dwight ran a successful general contracting company for many years working with private business owners. Dwight and his team were fortunate to contribute to the growth and development of Modesto and surrounding areas. Farming walnuts started as a second business venture and turned into a full time passion project and business operation. After retiring from the general contracting world, Dwight continued to run his walnut ranches full time, all the way until his passing.
Dwight achieved many accomplishments during his lifetime, some of which include Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors, inducted into the Modesto Graffiti Route Walk of Fame, President of Rotary in Modesto, President of the SOS club, and Board of Directors for Stanislaus Consolidated Fire, Central Valley Electrical Apprentice Training Committee, various donations to local construction projects and organizations.
Dwight’s personal interests and hobbies included flying, golf, and farming, spending time on his houseboat, and spending time with family. Dwight’s favorite local hangout was the famous Fruit Yard Restaurant in Modesto. He spent countless hours with friends and family there over the years. In fact, everyone knew that if you could not get ahold of Dwight, you could be sure you would find him at the Fruit Yard!
Public Services for Dwight will be held on January 25th at 11am at Lakewood Memorial located at 900 Santa Fe Ave Modesto, CA. Followed by a Private Burial.
A Celebration of Life immediately proceeding at the Fruit Yard Restaurant located 7948 Yosemite Ave in Modesto, CA.
