In 1968 Alfred moved his family to Modesto where he lived the rest of his life. Alfred supported his family as a truckdriver, a profession he learned from his father as a teenager in Yuma, AZ. Early in his career he hauled hay, grapes, and other agricultural products. He then spent over 20 years driving for Interstate Brands Corporation (Dolly Madison Cakes). Alfred took great pride in his truckdriving career and earned recognition for safely driving over a million miles.
In 1980 Alfred left the trucking profession and began a new profession as a marine engine mechanic. He was a brilliant man with anything mechanical. Any problem with a motor, big or small, he could diagnose and fix. His talent enabled him to own and operate a very successful repair shop in Modesto, Al's Scenic Marine, until his retirement in 2006.
Alfred married his beloved wife Eleanor in 1957. Together they had 3 children and as a family enjoyed many adventures and traveled extensively in their camper. They mostly spent weekends at the local lakes where he loved to waterski and drive his boat. He loved the lake so much that he bought property at Lake Don Pedro, taught himself how to build, and then built his cherished family cabin.
Alfred is preceded in death by his father Alfredo Lugo, mother Angela Lugo, sisters Nubia King and Carmen Custer, and his brother Rogelio Lugo.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Eleanor Lugo, his son Robert Lugo (Amber), his two daughters Camille Abeldt (Phil) and Beverly Medeiros (John), his grandchildren Tiffany Galas (Jay), Jason Lugo, Natasha DeLeon, Johnny DeLeon (Rene), Amelia Stratton (Jason), and Erica VanderVeen (TJ), step-grandchildren Jenny Lay (John), Bryan Banuelos (Windy), Eric Banuelos, Jocelyn Splan (Blake), Hannah Castillon, Abby Castillon, and Sophia Castillon, and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with funeral service at 10:30 a.m. followed by committal service at Lakewood Memorial Park.
