Arthur Zachary Stiles

Zach Stiles, age 78, passed away at Doctors Hospital on November 4, 2017 due to complications from a heart procedure. His family was at his side as he passed away peacefully. Zach was born in Montpelier, VT and grew up in Vermont and the New York area. He graduated from Ohio University before starting a career with General Foods in White Plains, NY. Later, he was promoted to San Leandro, before moving to Modesto in 1978 where he was HR Manager for the General Foods (CVC & Post Cereals) location on Whitmore Avenue in Ceres. He retired after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pam, of 29 years, sons, Matthew Z. Stiles and Austin A. Stiles (Kiki Winchester). He leaves behind his sister, Gail Pittenger, of Delta, CO, her children Syndi Scott (Dan) and Scott Pittenger (Lyn) and grandchildren, also Pam’s sisters Susan Otrubova, Debbie Dulisse, Patty Del Re of Modesto and Diane Ruggles of Freedom, PA . Zach was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Stiles and brother in law, Jim Pittenger. He also leaves behind his 14 year old African Grey Parrot, Wacky and cocker spaniel, Annie.

Zach was an avid golfer and was playing golf up until the time of his death. He was a member of Spring Creek CC for 21 years where he enjoyed playing golf with Pam and his buddies. Before golf, he owned a Cal 227 Sailboat “Pursuit” that he enjoyed sailing on the Delta and was a member of the Stockton Sailing Club for 18 years. His favorite vacation place was Maui, HI.

Zach was a true gentleman and very likeable person with a great sense of humor and wit. He enjoyed cooking, eating, and a drink or two. He enjoyed computers and was a volunteer for the AARP Tax-Aide for 12 years. He lived his life to the fullest.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 1 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe in Hughson. There will be a Reception immediately following at the Regency Park Clubhouse, 2237 Southport Lane, Modesto. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Salvation Army, P.O. 1663, Modesto, CA 95353 or your favorite charity.
