August 30, 1934 - March 26, 2026
Barbara Kerr peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 26th, 2026, at Stratford at Beyer Park, her home for nearly two years. Barbara was 91.
Barbara was born on August 30, 1934, in Denair, California. She was the youngest of four children born to Jacob B. and Emma Doerksen. Barbara attended Gratton Elementary school and graduated from Hughson High School in 1952.
Barbara’s husband of 54 years, Robert W. Kerr, preceded her in death on May 1, 2013. Also preceding her in death was her brother Harold Doerksen (Ruby) and sisters Lois Hartman (Fred) and Grace Woodward. She is survived by stepchildren, Robert Kerr Jr. of Modesto and Karen Thomas of Oakdale; children Scott Kerr (Renee) of Modesto and Kristin Fusco (Jack) of Houston, Texas. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Justin Kerr (Aly), Robbie Kerr, Jacquelyn Howell (Michael), Anthony Fusco (Martha Melsom), Chris Fusco (Alyce), Mark Fusco and 6 great-grandsons; Luke, Christopher and Jackson Howell, Jake Kerr, and Jack and Bennett Fusco.
As a child, Barbara spent most of her summers picking peaches on the family farm. A few years after graduation from high school, she took a job as a secretary for Morris Plan in Modesto, where she met her future husband, Bob. Barbara enjoyed being a mother to 4 active children and was an avid volunteer for the local schools’ PTAs, Modesto Jaycees, Community Hospice and many other charitable organizations in the Modesto community. She was always willing to pitch in and help whenever and wherever needed. In 1977, Barbara began work as a bookkeeper and office manager for Billington Welding, where she worked for 22 years. She loved to travel, especially to see family, and spent much of her spare time attending her grandchildren’s games and activities. She was a particularly avid sports fan and loved to cheer on the San Francisco 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, but especially loved baseball, both the Athletics and the L.A. Dodgers. She followed games closely and knew the names of the league’s players, coaches and managers.
A private graveside service will be held for family at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice at 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Stratford at Beyer Park for their loving care for the past two years. Their unwavering support and friendship meant the world to Barbara and we are forever grateful. We also would like to thank Community Hospice for the comfort that they provide to so many families in their times of need.
