Charles Ernest Joseph Catlin "Ernie" was born on July 11, 1923 at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco, CA to Charles and Ruth Catlin. The family later moved to the Modesto area where Ernie attended Modesto High School and MJC. After graduating from MJC he continued his education at UC Davis. Ernie served in World War II, and is an honored Veteran. Ernie then went to work for Gallo as a Shop Steward for 29 years, retiring in July of 1998; in that 29 years he never missed a day of work. Ernie always put his family first and was a great provider; he was a phenomenal son, husband, and father. He loved his pet turtle "Turdy", who is 30 years old. Ernie was known for having a great open door policy, bear hugs and hand grips, which were unmatched. Ernie loved to go fishing and hunting in his spare time. He started Royal Rangers in Modesto and sang for KTRB radio, and also worked 3 jobs when his children were young. Ernie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vivian "Val" Catlin; daughters, Karen Ruff, and Kathy Stewart; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
